Selling thrift store items on eBay is a great way to make some extra cash. I’ve been reselling thrift store items on eBay for 6 years and I’ve used the profits that I’ve made to pay for things such as my phone bill, credit card payments, and even my student loans!
Millions of potential buyers go to eBay to find great deals. The sad thing is that most people drive by their local Goodwill or Salvation Army and fail to see a tremendous opportunity to generate some extra income.
Thrift stores items are priced really cheap and if you’re lucky enough to find a valuable brand such as True Religion Jeans or a North Face jacket, then you can make some quick cash reselling them.
So, what do you need to do?
Well, you need to be willing to visit multiple stores and spend some time looking through items. But if this is something that excites you or if you’re already a fan of thrift shopping, then reselling your thrift finds on eBay would be a great “side” business to start!
So, if you’re interested in reselling thrift items on eBay but have no idea what items to buy, here’s some tips to help you get started.
Start with what you know
Thrift stores are filled with thousands of brands and it can be a challenge to research them all on eBay. The solution? Look for items that you already know.
Make a list of all the stores that you like to shop at, your favorite brands, and the brands and styles that you and your friends talk about. This gives you a goal or a target while you treasure hunting and it can make your search much less daunting.
For example, I’m really passionate about Nike and Air Jordan basketball shoes, and that’s exactly what I looked for when I first started. I was already familiar with the styles and the market value of these shoes so this was a great way to get gain some confidence and momentum.
Take advantage of extra discounts
Thrift stores are already filled with hundreds of bargains but there are still several ways you can get extra discounts and save even MORE money at your local thrift stores.
- Color of the Week: Each week, a tag color is designated as the “Color of the Week”; let’s say purple for example. For that week, any item with a purple sales tag is usually an extra 50%! The color of the week changes every week so you always have the opportunity every day to save even more money.
- Frequency cards are a great way to get rewarded for your visits. Each store’s promotion is different so make sure you get all the details.
To make money selling thrift store items on eBay, you don’t need expert to be a history buff or have knowledge about antiques or anything like that. In fact, you already have everything you need to get started!
Think about clothing brands that you and your friends like and hobbies that you enjoy. If you’re a fan of these things, then there’s a good chance that others are as well, and that’s exactly what they’ll be looking for on eBay.
Good luck with the treasure hunt and hope to see you all at the thrift stores!
